A managing authority can grant an urgent authorisation for up to seven days. A standard authorisation is required for the period after.
This authorisation is given after assessments are completed. It can be requested up to 28 days early but doesn't provide immediate DoLS authority.
Tell us if the Standard Authorisation no longer authorises the care home or hospital to deprive the person of their liberty due to a suspension.
If the person is already subject to a DoLS Authorisation, which is due to expire, you must apply for a further authorisation.
The urgent authorisation can only be extended (for up to a further seven days) if the supervisory body agrees to a request made by the managing authority to do this.
A review of the current authorisation can be requested if criteria is no longer met or conditions need to be varied due to changed circumstances.
